Snowmobile Tours in Rovaniemi

More like going out with friends than joining a tour

PolarMax is a small Finnish family business based in Sinettä, a village 20 minutes north of Rovaniemi. We run snowmobile tours the way we’d want to be taken out ourselves — small groups, the same guide with you from start to finish, and routes that go where the city trails don’t reach. Our guides have been riding these forests since they were young, and most days you won’t see another group on the trail. Group size is a hard cap, not an average. Usually 4 to 6 snowmobiles per tour, with one guide riding alongside the group rather than just leading from the front. If you’ve already been on a snowmobile somewhere closer to the city centre, you’ll notice the difference within the first kilometre — fewer tracks, more space, and trails that actually go somewhere.

A snowmobile tour for most kinds of travellers

If you’ve never been on a snowmobile, our easier daytime tours are built for first-timers — the briefing is proper, the start is slow, and the pace picks up as the group settles in. Couples and friends travelling together can share a snowmobile and switch drivers at the breaks, or take a single each for a supplement. A shared snowmobile is booked for two people. Travelling solo, or an odd number in the group? One person books a Single snowmobile — same machine, you just have the seat to yourself. Families are welcome on the easier tours. Children and anyone under 140 cm ride in the covered, insulated sledge behind the guide, from the age of four. Passengers over 140 cm can ride on the back of a snowmobile. For those wanting more time on the snowmobile or a private experience for just their own group, the longer and private tours go further out, with the same small-group philosophy. To drive a snowmobile yourself, you must be at least 20 years old and hold a valid Category B driving licence. All tours are conducted in English.

• Free pickup and drop-off from central Rovaniemi (Korkalonkatu 23) — select it at checkout
• No previous experience needed — every tour begins with a proper briefing and a practice run before we head out
• Small groups: 4 to 6 snowmobiles, one guide riding with the group the whole way
• Guiding in English by local guides who have ridden these forests all their lives
• BRP Lynx Ranger snowmobiles, built in Rovaniemi — heated grips, footrests and a heated passenger seat
• Thermal overalls, winter boots, wool socks, gloves, balaclava, helmet and goggles included — plus extra midlayers and handwarmers on cold days
• Glasses wearers: we have goggles that fit over your own frames without fogging
• Backcountry routes across frozen lakes, forest trails and open hills — not the shared city trails
• Photos and short videos from the day shared with the group afterwards, at no extra cost
• Coffee, tea and pulla back at the base after the ride
• Drivers must be 20 or over with a valid Category B licence; a shared snowmobile is booked for two people
• Season runs from December to March, with daily departures
