What the day looks like
You arrive at our base in Sinettä at 09:00. We start with a warm welcome inside, a chance to get warm, and a proper briefing — today’s weather and conditions, how the snowmobile works, how we ride together as a group, and how we communicate on the trail. Then we get you kitted out with thermal overalls, boots, helmet and gloves.
The first stretch is the training section, but you’re already riding. We start slow and pick up the pace as the group settles in. From there we head into the backcountry north of Rovaniemi — varied terrain, narrower forest trails, gentle climbs, open sections across frozen lakes. Your guide rides with the group and gives tips along the way: body position, how to keep the machine stable, how to read the trail ahead.
Around midday we stop at Arctic SnowHotel for a warm lunch. The menu has soup, salads, pasta dishes and burgers — with reindeer, salmon, chicken and vegetarian options. There’s about an hour to take the gear off, sit down and properly relax before heading back out.
The afternoon section takes a different route back. By the time we return to base around 16:00, you’ve covered 70 to 100 km of backcountry trail and seen parts of Lapland that most visitors never reach.
Why this tour, and why us
Most snowmobile tours in Rovaniemi are 2 or 3 hours long. They give you a taste, but the route stays close to the city. A full day is different. With more time on the snowmobile, we can ride further into the backcountry — to terrain we can’t reach in 3 hours — and the pace is calmer, with proper breaks and a real lunch.
The group stays small, usually 4 to 6 snowmobiles, and you’ll have the same guide with you all day. Our guides have been riding these forests since they were young, and they know which trails are running well in any given week. They’ll take photos and short videos during the day and email them to you afterwards, so you don’t need to worry about stopping for pictures.
The snowmobiles are BRP Lynx, built in a factory 20 minutes from where we ride. New machines, with heated grips, footrests and a heated passenger seat — important on a full day out. Your guide also carries a thermos and snacks for breaks, mostly as a backup but available if you need them.
Most guests choose a single snowmobile — it’s easier to handle and more enjoyable across a long day. If you’re travelling as a couple and prefer to share, that works too, and you can switch drivers at lunch.
Is this tour for you?
A good fit if you:
- Want a complete day in the wilderness, not a short sample
- Are travelling as a couple or with adult friends
- Are comfortable with an active pace and a long day on the machine
- Have enjoyed ATVs, motorcycles, or other motor sports — or are happy to learn from scratch
- Prefer a small group and a guide who actually rides with you

Q&A about this tour
Good to Know — This Tour
Do I need previous snowmobile experience?
No. Your guide will coach you from the start. The tour is built for guests who want to ride actively — if you’ve enjoyed an ATV, motorcycle, or other motor sports before, you’ll pick this up quickly. Even without engine experience, the briefing and the first section of the trail are designed to help you feel comfortable on the machine.
Why adults only?
The route is long, the pace is active, and the day on the machine is demanding. Children get cold and tired well before the tour ends, and we don’t take the passenger sleigh on this route. Families travelling with children should look at our morning tours instead.
Single or shared snowmobile?
Both work well. A single snowmobile is easier to control and most guests find it more enjoyable across a long day — it’s our recommendation. If you’re travelling as a couple and prefer to share, you can, and you can switch drivers at lunch.
What’s on the lunch menu?
A warm lunch at Arctic SnowHotel, chosen from the menu when you arrive. Drinks are not included and can be ordered separately. There’s about an hour at lunch.
- Soup of the day with crusty baguette
- Green salad — choose with cheese, chicken or salmon
- Pasta all’arrabbiata (tomato) with crusty baguette
- Salmon pasta with crusty baguette
- Chicken pasta with crusty baguette
- Reindeer pasta with crusty baguette
- Reindeer burger with French fries and dip
- Fish burger with French fries and dip
- Pulled oat burger with French fries and dip
French fries can be changed to root vegetable fries. All options can be prepared gluten free on request.
How long is the route?
Between 70 and 100 km of backcountry trail, depending on conditions and the group. The tour runs from 09:00 to roughly 16:00, with an hour at Arctic SnowHotel for lunch.
How big is the group?
Usually 4 to 6 snowmobiles, with a maximum cap of 6. That’s a hard cap, not an average.
What if it’s very cold?
The snowmobiles have heated grips, footrests and heated passenger seats, and we provide thermal overalls, boots, helmet and gloves. Your guide carries a thermos and snacks for the trail. The lunch break at Arctic SnowHotel is a proper indoor stop. Bring proper base layers and a warm hat — Lapland winter conditions are real, but the tour is built for them.
Where does the tour start, and is pickup available?
The tour starts from our base in Sinettä, 20 minutes north of Rovaniemi. We offer optional pickup from central Rovaniemi (Korkalonkatu 23) at 08:30 — 20€/person, book at checkout.
What language is the tour in?
English. For safety reasons, drivers must be able to understand English safety instructions.
FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
What do I need to bring?
Not much — we take care of the outerwear.
Warm underlayers: thermal base layer top and bottoms.
A fleece mid-layer — fleece jacket and pants work well.
Your physical driving licence (required for drivers — police may check on the trail).
Phone or camera if you want to capture the ride.
The guide has snacks and drinks, but you’re welcome to bring your own.
Do I need a driver’s licence?
Yes — all drivers must be at least 20 years old and hold a valid car driver’s licence (B category). National and international licences accepted. Carry the physical licence with you — police may check on the trail.
Do I need previous experience?
No experience needed. Your guide gives full driving and safety instructions before departure, plus a practice run on our private track. If you can drive a car, you can drive one of ours.
Can I drive alone or do I have to share?
Each snowmobile seats two people. You can share with a travel companion, or book a Single Snowmobile to drive alone — select your preference at booking. Both people on a shared snowmobile can drive and swap at break points.
How do I get to your base?
Our base is in Sinettä, 20 minutes north of Rovaniemi city centre. Optional free pickup from Rovaniemi city center — add it at checkout if needed. Free parking at the base if you drive yourself.
Can children join the tour?
Children under 140 cm ride in a covered, insulated sled towed by the guide’s snowmobile — warm and comfortable. Children over 140 cm can ride as a passenger on the snowmobile at adult price. Minimum age is 4 years.
How fast do we drive?
Typically 20–50 km/h depending on trail conditions and group skill level. Your guide sets the pace — fast enough to be fun, always within what the group is comfortable with.
What is your cancellation policy?
Free cancellation up to 24 hours before the tour. Cancellations within 24 hours or no-shows are non-refundable. If plans change, contact us as early as possible — we’ll do our best to find a solution.
